What Do You Treasure?

What is treasure? How do people hunt for treasure? What do YOU treasure?
The science, technology, history, and thrill of treasure hunting are explored in the fantastic traveling exhibition Treasure! The Hunt Has Just Begun. This joint project of Burpee Museum of Natural History and Discovery Center Museum in Rockford IL, features 5,000 square feet of artifacts, hands-on activities, videos, biographies, and tales from around the world.
The traveling exhibition opens May 25 and runs through September 2.
Delve into the technology employed by treasure hunters and focus on the people and personalities lured by the promise of prosperity. Be enticed by shipwreck and treasure site artifacts, and learn to use the tools you'd need to find a fortune. Dig for treasure and pan for gold. Operate a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) in a tank of water. Use a metal detector. Use maps, compasses and clues to locate treasure. Learn how to geocache. You can even try your hand at cracking a safe!
Treasure! can be uncovered in the Woodward Exhibit Hall. Admission: $2 for Members; $4 for Public + general Museum admission of $8/person. Parking is free.

Happy Feet * Happy Baby Shower * Elegant and Simple * Reclaimed and Green

Designed for my Best Friend this was a complimentary project, but a beautiful result! What was meant to be a subtle tribute to Happy Feet turned out to be a very elegant Baby Shower Invitation with matching Thank You Cards!  Although the penguin image itself has copy write I am able to make similar invitations with just as much pizzazz and a image of your choice!

I used reclaimed invitations purchased from my local Goodwill store in McHenry,IL.  The white background, and blue paper with flourishes were from packs of invitations that were partially used and donated.  I was none to happy to reclaim them and upcycle them into these beautiful invitations.  The egg shape holds a Stampin' up stamp, "You're Invited".  The penguin image was purchased from http://deliciousdoodles.blogspot.com/2011/11/penguin-family.html and was printed on a laser printer onto white card stock.  The images were then hand chalked with blue for ice and orange and yellow accents to bring life to the penguins. Very little paper waste was created during this project as the scraps were used to accent the Thank You cards and make floral accents on coordinating envelopes!
Green and Beautiful, the best of both worlds!

Steampunk and Just A Little Wizard of OZ

A little Steampunk and a little Wizard of Oz!  The Great and Powerful Oz inspired these creations.  The movie theatre was giving away posters to advertise the new OZ movie!  I created some magical cards by cutting out the best parts of the posters and adding some gold embossing and complimentary colors to matte the image.  Crinkle paper makes these dimensional and bling adds just enough to make it fancy!

Now Entering the World of Steam Punk

I have been working hard on new Steampunk designs! If you haven't heard of this phenomenon it is a design based upon Science Fiction from the early 1900's when people imagined the world would run on steam power. Gears, clocks and some other rather interesting design concepts are at its heart. It imagines a world where predomination by electricity and petroleum never happens. Check out http://www.steampunk.com/what-is-steampunk/  The following designs are just the beginning, more to come soon!  All for sale in my Etsy store! https://www.etsy.com/shop/LanaBugDesigns

The gold is embossed using Versa mark and gold embossing powder!  Tim Holtz paper adds some extra nice details to some of the cards and 7 Gypsies cling stamps from Michael's Arts and Crafts allowed me to add the clock embellishments.

Reclaimed Books Made into Flowers and Then Into Beautiful Note Cards

I crafted these flowers from old books we had in the family!  With a quilling tool and my friend glue dots these beautiful note cards could be for any occasion you can imagine.

Feeling a Little Monday Night Inspiration

After a long day at the 9-5 job I was feeling a little Monday Night Inspiration and a longing for a vacation.  Palm trees and my favorite stamp helped me create these beautiful cards.  Father's day is just around the corner and with a Happy Father's Day Sentiment created inside you could thank you Dad for taking you all sorts of different places.  The traditional fishing card for Dad with a modern twist was also part of the creative explosion.

Handmade Flowers Grace My New Cards for This Week

A few weeks ago I attended an expo where I learned how to make beautiful handmade flowers from variety of materials!  Materials used in making the orange flower include crate paper, Tim Holtz Distressing Ink, Banana Paper and wired burlap rope.

The main inspiration was a company named Mona Mi Gabby!
The owner was amazing and super sweet as well.

I have taken these ideas and placed them on the
front of my cards and they are just beautiful!

They can be purchased at Lana Bug Designs on Etsy, but here they are!
